Over 1,400 passport applications are still waiting to be processed in County Wicklow.
According to figures released to Sinn Fein TD John Brady, there are currently 112,000 applications with the Passport Service.
50,000 of those require additional documentation, with a further 62,000 still under review.
Staff numbers in the office have been reduced significantly in the past year, with around 500 personnel in total being left to address the backlog in the system.
Deputy Brady has called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney to ensure there are sufficient staff on hand to deal with demand at this time.
