Cue the celebrations! Lakers Sports & Social Club is marking the official completion of its rebuild and an exciting new chapter.
After years of fundraising, hard work and serious community spirit, Lakers Sports and Social Club has officially completed its rebuild. The milestone is being celebrate this afternoon with members, families, and club supporters marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
A Phoenix From The Ashes
The original Lakers building in Bray was destroyed in a fire in 2018. Since then, donors, local businesses and organisations have rallied around the club to help bring it back.
Lakers is a place where everyone is welcome, new skills are learned, confidence grows and friendships last. Some members have been coming for more than 35 years.
So what's new? The third and final phase has added:
- A new sports hall
- A sensory room
- An art room
- A dedicated Family Room
The new spaces will boost the experience for current members, offer more support for families and give Lakers room to grow its classes, activities and membership.
The achievement is being attributed to the local community, and the courage and resilience of people of all ages "who simply never give up."
Newly appointed Chairperson Fergus Finlay says "Our members now have a welcoming and busy centre that is all theirs and that will serve them long into the future."
Lakers is extending a heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, fundraised or backed the project along the way. Generosity and belief in the club has helped transform a challenging chapter into a positive future for members and families.
