Eight Wicklow Short Stories Heading For Greystones Red Carpet

Cinema

The 5th Wicklow Stories Film Festival has announced its Official Selection, with live screenings at the Whale Theatre next month.

FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER · WHALE THEATRE, GREYSTONES

Eight short films made in Wicklow, or with a real connection to it, will take over the Whale Theatre in Greystones next month as the fifth Wicklow Stories Film Festival unveils its Official Selection.

The festival returns on Friday 13 November for a full evening of live screenings and red-carpet celebration. Its aim is simple: to champion local filmmaking talent and stories rooted in County Wicklow.

It describes itself as the only wholly independent and unfunded film festival on the East Coast.

Every film has to meet the festival’s core rule: it must be shot at least 60% in County Wicklow, or have a substantial connection to the county through its story or creative team.

Submissions this year spanned drama, comedy, documentary, horror, animation, experimental and student films.

Marlena Murphy the festival's artistic director said  ''Each year we see more filmmakers embracing Wicklow as a place to tell meaningful, visually striking stories.''

Ms Murphy said the 2026 selection “showcases the strength of our local creative community and the power of regional filmmaking”.

Red carpet, Greystones style

Expect red-carpet arrivals, filmmaker introductions and the chance to meet the people behind the films.

All eight will be screened before a live audience, giving filmmakers a platform to network and build industry visibility.

The organisers say the festival has become a highlight of the Greystones cultural calendar, drawing industry professionals, film fans and press to the Whale Theatre.

Before the main event, the official launch will be hosted by Clermont Screen Hub on Tuesday 3 November.

Details on how to attend are on the festival’s Instagram page.
