the lifeboat crew in Arklow launched 13 times, rescuing 21 people in the process, with the lives of three people saved by the direct intervention of the lifeboat crews based in county Wicklow.
The figures have been released ahead of the RNLI’s month long, Mayday fund raising campaign, to provide vital rescue kit for its 1,500 Volunteers around the country, who man the 24 hour search and rescue service.
Arklow woman, Mary Nolan Hickey raised €72,000 last year when she ran around the coastline of Ireland.
Last Sunday she set off on her latest challenge to cycle the coastline, to try to bring her fundraising efforts to €100,000.
