Cllr queries whether plans for social housing in Arklow will involve councillors getting an opportunity to vote.
Cllr Peir Leonard has queried whether plans for social housing at Tinahask in Arklow will involve councillors getting an opportunity to vote.
Cllr Leonard raised the issue at the February meeting of Wicklow County Council, in relation to the 100 social homes due to be provided as part of a bundle of projects under the social housing Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme.“In relation to the new social housing development at Tinahask, it’s at the design stage now and I would just like to ask does Wicklow County Council have discretion on whether it goes to 179A, Section179A, or can we go through a normal process where the councillors get a vote and the public get a chance to make submissions on that housing development ”Director of Services Joe Lane said: “At the moment, Section 179 applies. There will be now an extension to 179A. If 179A comes in, we will contact the councillors. Regardless, we have taken, and will take into account what the elected members said the last day, and we will be back to the elected members in Arklow before any advertisement is made in the development.”
