Two years ago the Sinn Fein Party in Wicklow handed over documents to gardai alleging serious planning irregularities in Wicklow County Council.
Last week Sinn Féin TD John Brady handed over a number of sworn affidavits on the allegations to the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy.
Deputy Brady says he raised concerns with the minister several times before Easter, and met with him last Thursday and handed over the affidavits, along with a letter outlining the serious concerns, which he says go back a number of years.
Welcoming the news that gardai are to carry out an investigation, Deputy Brady says he also wants the Office of the Planning Regulator, who has the power to review the performance of planning authorities and An Bord Pleanála, including assessing any risks of maladministration or corruption, to also carry out an investigation.
