Katie Taylor's curtain call at Croke Park on Saturday night didn't just pack a punch—it landed on 1.6 million Irish screens.

RTÉ has confirmed the stunning viewership figures for the Bray boxing icon's retirement fight.

Taylor saw off Flora Pili with relative ease in a unanimous points victory, and in doing so, proved once again why Bray—has produced one of Ireland's greatest ever athletes.

1.6 million viewers is more than watched the World Cup final on RTÉ. That's nearly double what tuned in for Limerick's All-Ireland hurling final.

It's head and shoulders above the 1.1 million who watched Kerry and Mayo slug it out in the football championship.

An average of 973,000 viewers stayed glued to RTÉ throughout, with a jaw-dropping 74% share of the entire viewing audience.

Another 552,000 streamed it on RTÉ Player. The message was clear: Ireland wanted to see Katie Taylor say goodbye on her own terms, in her own way.

At 40 years old, the Wicklow native walked into Croke Park with 80,000 screaming supporters at her back. She walked out with her WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, and WBC belts—becoming a three-time undisputed world champion in the process.

Not many athletes get to bow out on top. Fewer still get to do it in front of a sell-out crowd and 1.6 million people watching at home, willing them on.

Saturday was the first major boxing event at Croke Park since Muhammad Ali took on Al 'Blue' Lewis in 1972. That was nearly 54 years ago. That was 18,000 people. This was 80,000. This was global.

"This was a national moment that will be remembered for many years to come," RTÉ Sport's Steve Carson said—and he's not wrong.

Katie Taylor represents something bigger than boxing belts and championship titles. She's a Bray girl who conquered the world, brought that world home, and reminded all of us what it means to be Irish, to be a champion, and to finish the way you started: unflinching.
