Calls For M11 Resurfacing Rethink Over Noise Concerns

'We have a very clear and reasonable request being made here' says Sinn Féin TD John Brady.

A local TD John is calling on Transport Infrastructure Ireland to halt planned resurfacing works on the M11

John Brady says TII plans to use conventional Hot Rolled Asphalt between Junctions 14 and 18, rather than low-noise Stone Mastic Asphalt.

The Sinn Féin Deputy says residents and Wicklow County Council are calling for a quieter surface as traffic noise is affecting homes along the route.

He says SMA was used on another section of the M11 in  and wants TII to pause the works and reconsider its decision.

Deputy Brady says the issue is particularly relevant in light of the objectives of the Wicklow County Council Noise Action Plan 2024–2028:

“The plan specifically recognises low-noise road surfacing as a measure for reducing noise at source ... We have a very clear and reasonable request being made here. Residents want the lower-noise material. Wicklow County Council engineers have requested it ... TII needs to explain why, in these circumstances, it is refusing to reconsider its decision.”
