Almost 8 million euro will be invested in over 30 projects across the Municipal Districts of Bray, Arklow, Wicklow, Baltinglass and Greystones.
Wicklow County Council has been awarded €7.6 million in funding for Active Travel projects.
The National Transport Authority investment includes €7 million for walking and cycling schemes. An extra €500,000 has also been allocated for the Bus Enhancement Programme and €115,974 for Transport Studies in both Arklow and Bray.
It will support over 30 projects across Wicklow to deliver safer, more sustainable travel options
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Emer O’Gorman, said the support is crucial:
“I welcome the announcement of this vital funding from the NTA. It will allow our Active Travel team to further progress the delivery of invaluable schemes across the county. Our completed schemes, like the Bray Transport Interchange - which has delivered a high-quality public realm interchange between the key transport modes of walking, cycling, taxi, bus and railway at Bray Train Station - is an example of the works we can carry out with the continued support and funding received from the NTA.”
Joe Lane, Director of Services for Transport and Infrastructure Delivery said:
“We are delighted with the investment from the NTA. Their continued support is paramount and allows us to progress our schemes across the Municipal Districts of Bray, Arklow, Wicklow, Baltinglass and Greystones. It will enable us to continue with our goal of every resident using active travel options in their daily lives, as we have provided them with a practical and safe choice to do so.”
The list of projects in receipt of Active Travel funding, will be updated in the coming days. Visit www.wicklow.ie to find out more.
