According to new figures from Forest Industries Ireland, over 36,260 hectares of forestry across the garden county are absorbing an extra 169,200 tonnes of CO2 each year, the equivalent of taking over 78,300 cars off the road.
Forests are a natural carbon capture and storage system and one of the easiest ways for the county to deal with its harmful emissions.
Trees suck up carbon as they grow, lock it into timber products and displace less environmentally friendly products.
Total employment in the forestry sector in County Wicklow is estimated at 760 people.
