The Wicklow Uplands Way is among 31 new walking trails across 13 counties that have been announced today, bringing the national total to 80.
Eight new rural recreation officer roles will be brought on stream, adding to the 13 already in place, whose job it is to enhance outdoor amenities.
The Rural Development Minister Heather Humphreys says there will be more funding for rural areas in the years to come.
