That's according to Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore, as TikTok is planning a second data centre in Ireland.
TikTok has announced plans to build a second data centre in Ireland as part of its plans to expand operations in Europe.
The new data centre will complement the facility at the Echelon Campus in Clondalkin that is due to go live later this year.
Social Democrats spokesperson on Climate, Jennifer Whitmore, says there is too much pressure on the national grid.
The video-sharing platform, which has had a base in Ireland since 2019, is also planning to develop a third data centre somewhere else in Europe in the coming months.
The platform announced last year that it was creating an additional 1,000 jobs in Ireland, which would bring its total workforce here to around 3,000 people.
