Wicklow T.D. John Brady is calling for cross party support for Sinn Fein’s bill put forward in the Dáil this week, looking to ban rent increases for all existing and new tenancies for three years.
According to the latest figures the average asking rent in Wicklow is over €1,500 per month.
The party’s housing spokesperson, Eoin Ó Broin has put forward a bill which if implemented, will ensure that rents in existing tenancies will be capped at the existing rate on the date the new legislation is enacted, and new tenancies will be set according to the Residential Tenancies Board rent index.
Speaking to East Coast FM’s Morning Show, Deputy Brady said it’s one of a number of solutions being put forward to tackle the rental crisis.
