Bray's Own Katie Taylor Gets Emotional Send-Off in New Fight Promo

Wicklow's greatest sporting export is about to bow out in style, and Matchroom Boxing have just released the video to prove it.

The promotional trailer for Katie Taylor's retirement fight has landed online, and it's already being talked about locally for the way it captures just how big a moment September 5th is going to be — not just for boxing, but for Bray and the whole county.

The Fight Itself

Our own Katie Taylor takes on unbeaten French challenger Flora Pili at Croke Park, with her WBA, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine lightweight titles all up for grabs.

The vacant WBC belt is also on the line, meaning a win would make Taylor an undisputed world champion for the third time in her career — the perfect way to close out an incredible chapter before she hangs up her gloves.

Adding some serious star power to the promo, it's narrated by BAFTA-winning Irish actor Barry Keoghan, and dropped six days out from fight night.

A Homecoming Fit for a Legend

Taylor goes into the fight in serious form, riding a three-fight winning streak that includes two wins over long-time rival Amanda Serrano — their first clash back in 2022 made history as the first women's boxing match to headline Madison Square Garden. Taylor finished that trilogy 3-0, sealing her place as part of one of the biggest rivalries the sport has ever seen.

And what a way to bring it home. Croke Park is expected to pack in more than 80,000 fans for Taylor's last ever ring walk — the first professional boxing event there since Muhammad Ali fought back in 1972.

Speaking when the fight was confirmed, Taylor said it felt like the right way to finish:

"This seems like the perfect way to end it — by becoming Undisputed Champion again in our national stadium, which has such a special place in Irish hearts. People have travelled all around the world to follow my career, and I'm hoping I can repay some of that with a big performance on September 5."

The Numbers

Taylor carries a 25-1 record into what will be the final fight of her career.

A win over Pili would see the Bray woman retire as a three-time undisputed champion, in front of the biggest home crowd of her career, at the stadium she's dreamed of headlining for years.

It's fair to say all eyes in Wicklow — and well beyond it — will be on Croke Park come September 5th.
