While many people are left wondering if they will have a job to return to after the lockdown measures imposed because of Covid-19, politicians and senior civil servants are set to receive pay increases in July, pushing a T.D.’s salary over €100,000, with a further 1% increase in October.
Senators are also in for an increase bringing their salary to over €70,000.
However the Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald says given the state of the economy and the crisis that many workers and families are facing, giving TD’s a pay rise was wrong and she won’t be accepting the increases.
