Labour took the fourth and final seat in the Bray East Constituency in Wicklow’s local election yesterday evening, by just one vote, following a two day recheck at the Shoreline leisure centre in Greystones
Anne Ferris and independent candidate Malachaí Duddy, had been level on 1006 votes on Sunday night, after all the other constituencies had been declared in record time. The recheck turned up one extra ballot paper that hadn’t been counted, which when tracked through the recount, eventually transferred to the labour candidate.
Following the declaration last night, Mr Duddy requested another recount but that was denied by the returning officer. However this could yet be appealed to the courts.
Speaking after winning the seat last night, Anne Ferris said she was delighted to be back in politics.
