Community First Responder groups across Wicklow have begun recruiting volunteers.
Community First Responder groups across Wicklow have begun recruiting and training volunteers after a period of inactivity during the pandemic.
This comes after news that the number of volunteer teams answering emergency heart attack calls across the country had dropped from 275 pre-pandemic, to 170.
Some volunteers that didn't return had decided Covid was a risk too far, while others had experienced a change in lifestyle or simply moved outside the proximity of their group’s coverage. Others weren’t keen on wearing personal protective gear (PPE), or going through the process of retraining to the current Cardiac First Responder (CFR) standards.
