One in three young people who smoke cannabis once a week or more often are becoming addicted, according to a new report.
The College of Psychiatrists says cannabis and its potency is leading to a 'gravest mental health issue' that Ireland faces today.
It's claimed some children as young as 8 or 9 have experimented with the drug.
Consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr Gerry McCarney, says the amount of children addicted to it is reaching worrying levels.
