House completions are still surging in Wicklow unlike many other counties where apartments seem de rigeur according to all the facts released from the office of The Central Statistics Office
Newly published data from the Central Statistics Office shows that new housing completions in Wicklow in the fourth quarter of 2025 were dominated by housing estates, bucking the national trend.
Between October and December, 466 homes were completed in the county, up from 362 in the same period in 2024.
Of these, 377 were scheme houses, 71 were single houses, and just 18 were apartments.
Scheme homes accounted for 81% of completions in Wicklow, compared with 50.7% nationally, while apartments made up only 4% locally versus 34.1% nationally.
For the full year, 1,380 homes were completed in Wicklow, a slight increase on the 1,338 completed in 2024.
More than half of all homes completed nationally in 2025 were in Dublin or the Mid-East region, which includes Wicklow.
The CSO also noted that the ten local electoral areas with the highest completions were in Wicklow, alogmnwith Dublin and Louth.
Wicklow’s figures highlight a continued focus on low-density, estate-style housing, in contrast to the growing national trend towards apartment development.
