Wicklow Hosepipe Ban Extended As Supplies Remain Under Pressure

Uisce Éireann says another month of shorter showers, reduced use of washing machines, and using a watering can is needed.

Wicklow will not benefit from the lifting of the nationwide hosepipe ban this week.

Uisce Éireann is extending current restrictions in the county until the end of September. Twelve other counties are also impacted, where the company says supplies need more time to recover. They include:

Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Wexford and Waterford.

The Water Conservation Order was introduced across Wicklow in July after prolonged hot, dry weather.

Uisce Éireann says parts of Wicklow are also supplied through the Greater Dublin Area, where demand remains historically high.

Households are asked to continue avoiding non-essential water use, including using hoses, and to conserve water wherever possible.

The utility says the extension is needed to protect supplies and reduce the risk of disruption in Wicklow.

Stephen Burke, Regional Operations Senior Manager for the East region thanked communities across Wicklow for their support:

“We recognise the effort that people have already made to conserve water, and we sincerely appreciate their continued support."
