Dublin City Councillors last night voted in favour of awarding Dr Tony Holohan the Freedom of the City.
Doctor Holohan stepped away from his work last week to spend time with family as his wife is receiving palliative care.
The nomination was proposed by the Lord Mayor Hazel Chu, in recognition of his work leading the response to Covid-19.
