Wicklow County Council have been told rail line protection works from Bray to Wicklow Town won't be completed until at least 2030.
They're now concerned that areas like the Murrough won't be there to protect by that time.
A presentation from Iarnrod Eireann suggested rock barriers as a potential solution.
In recent years the company has seen an increase in the frequency of storm events because of climate change.
This necessitates more and more maintenance works to be carried out to respond to the effects of coastal erosion, wave overtopping and coastal flooding on the east coast rail line and supporting infrastructure.
The effects of the storm events, and the resulting works, have the potential to see increasing disruption to existing services.
