Yellow wind and rain warnings have just come into effect in Wicklow and around the country and will remain in place until 6 o’clock tomorrow morning.
Storm Lorenzo is expected to bring winds of up to 90 kilometers an hour, increasing to 130 kilometers an hour in some western coastal counties later today. Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick will be the worst affected, with a status orange wind warning due to come into effect in those areas from six o'clock this evening.
Flooding, power outages, fallen trees and property damage are just some of the problems people are being told to expect.
Wicklow County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team say they are making preparations for the arrival of the storm and Outdoor Crews, the county’s Fire Service and Civil Defence are on standby.
They’ve urged people to keep away from coastal areas because of surging tides and to avoid taking shelter from the rain under trees and for road users and pedestrians to take extreme care over the next 24 hours..
