Wicklow's "Irish Viking" Disqualified From Driving for Six Years

TikTok Influencer Matthew Gilbert was ccaught speeding on the N11 while already banned and uninsured

A social media influencer with over two million TikTok followers has been disqualified from driving for six years after being caught speeding on the N11 while already disqualified and without insurance this year.

Matthew Gilbert, known online as "The Irish Viking," appeared at Bray District Court charged with driving while disqualified, speeding, and having no insurance following an incident on January 2nd.

The 35-year-old, originally from Kilcoole in County Wicklow but now based in Dubai, was detected by gardaí driving at 134 kilometres per hour in a 100-kilometre per-hour zone on the N11.

When stopped by gardaí, it was discovered he had no valid Irish driving licence.

Defence Arguments

Gilbert's solicitor, Brendan Maloney, argued that his client had hired a rental car using a valid United Arab Emirates driving licence upon returning to Ireland in December 2025, unaware that his Irish disqualification from 2021 remained in force.

However, this marked Gilbert's third no-insurance offence, triggering a mandatory six-year driving ban under Irish law.

Judge Mary McAveety imposed a €1,000 fine and issued the disqualification order, though she noted it would be "purely cosmetic" given that Gilbert resides outside the jurisdiction.

Gilbert, who also has 400,000 followers across other social media platforms including OnlyFans, is understood to be a successful entrepreneur in Dubai.
