Wicklow TD Calls On Government To Address Issues Facing Lone Parents Living In Poverty

Sinn Féin spokesperson for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Wicklow T.D.  John Brady has urged Minister Regina Doherty to wake up to the reality being faced by lone parents,  who are at work and living in poverty.

A new St Vincent de Paul report says 60 per cent of lone parents cannot afford childcare costs, adding it’s one of the biggest barriers to work for single parent families. 

The rate of working lone parent families living below the poverty line more than doubled between 2012 and 2017.
