Millions Allocated To Regenerate Town Life in Co. Wicklow

Almost six million is being pumped into county projects from The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund.

€5.7 million has been announced for Co. Wicklow under a new national fund aimed at regenerating towns and communities.

The biggest allocation of €5.4 million is going The Murrough Waterfront Park Enhancement project in Wicklow town.

A further €150,000 will fund the development of an Arklow Quay Plan, with another €150,000 for a Wicklow Quay Plan.

The funding has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Wicklow Senator Pat Casey, who says it has the potential to be a “game changer” for communities.

The Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund replaces the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.

More than €400 million is being made available nationally for 120 projects including the redevelopment of vacant and underused sites, and improvements to community and civic infrastructure.

The programme is also designed to support the Town Centre First policy, with a particular focus on strengthening towns as places to live, work and spend time.
