A Wicklow rowing team has set a new record for the fastest Atlantic crossing by a team of five.
Tom Nolan, Diarmuid Ó Briain, Shane Culleton, Gearoid O'Briain and Derek McMullen, rowed from Canary Islands to Antigua in 33 days, 12 hours, and 38 minutes.
The five rowers took part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, billed as the world’s toughest row.
The group, who rowed under the banner 'Row Hard or Go Home', left San Sebastian in La Gomera on December 12.
The team arrived yesterday morning to wild excitement on the quayside, as they held aloft the tricolour to cheering crowds.
They are fundraising for the Laura Lynn Foundation, the R.N.L.I., and the Rathdrum Cancer Support Group.
