What a win for the Garden County's minors in Wexford last night!
Wicklow sent a clear message in their Leinster Minor Football Championship opener, routing neighbours Wexford in a dominant display at a chilly Chadwicks Wexford Park.
The home side barely had a chance, managing just one point from play and failing to score in the second half, as Wicklow’s firepower proved unstoppable.
Corner-forward Josh Furlong set the tone early with two neat scores, giving Wicklow a 0-5 to nil lead inside 19 minutes despite playing against the wind.
Wexford briefly fought back before halftime, pulling three points via Rory Dee and two Cian Kavanagh frees, but Wicklow’s class shone after the break.
Joe Keeshan added a brace of points, Odhran Cullen rattled the crossbar, and Sean Corrigan’s two-pointer capped off a commanding 0-14 to 0-3 victory.
Every corner of the field contributed to the win, with scorers including Furlong, Keeshan, Corrigan (1–2 each), and points from E Lacey, C Fitzgerald, C Devereaux, J McCarney, and S Goodbody. For Wexford, all efforts came from C Kavanagh (0–2) and R Dee (0–1).
This emphatic win gives Wicklow fans plenty to cheer about and sets the tone for what could be a thrilling championship campaign.
