It’s being reported today that a senior league division 1 match between Rathnew and Tinahely last weekend was abandoned, following claims that a Rathnew player was racially abused.
According to independent.ie, the sides met on Sunday in the opening round of league action in the garden county, but the game was abandoned after just 16 minutes by referee Pat Dunne.
The report says two red cards and several yellows were issued before the referee abandoned the fixture.
The Tinahely club met with players and officials on Sunday evening and has since denied any links to the accusations in the strongest possible terms.
The report says the chairman of Wicklow GAA, Martin Fitzgerald, has confirmed that he is aware the match had been abandoned and that the matter was now with the county's Competitions Control Committee.
