Wicklow County Council Win At The Local Government Awards.

The winning initiative focused on TY students guiding adults in using their digital devices

Wicklow County Council has announced its success at the recent Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2023 where the Council was shortlisted for four prestigious awards and came through as winners in the Age Friendly Initiative category.

The Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards is an annual ceremony that highlights standards of best practices in Irish Local Government nationally.

Wicklow County Council was shortlisted for the Samuel Hayes Bridge in the Supporting Tourism category; the Solar Car Park in Wicklow County Buildings under Local Authority Innovation;  the Hidden Disability Sunflower Initiative under Health and Wellbeing and the Intergenerational Digital Learning under Age Friendly Initiative.

In recognition of this collective achievement, Wicklow County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Aoife Flynn Kennedy, said:

"This award is a testament to the hard work and community spirit that define Wicklow County Council. We hope to build on the success of the Intergenerational Digital Learning project and replicate its positive impact into the future. Our commitment to creating an age-friendly environment will continue to drive our efforts in fostering innovation and inclusivity."

Wicklow County Council Chief Executive, Emer O’Gorman stated:

"We are immensely proud of the innovative projects that earned Wicklow County Council recognition across four categories. Each initiative demonstrates our commitment to enhancing community life. Together, they reflect our holistic approach to community development."

Wicklow County Council's winning initiative under the Age Friendly category focused on Transition Year students taking on the role of tutors, guiding adults in using their digital devices. Through personalised guidance, the students empowered adults to navigate the digital landscape with confidence.
