Love Pours Out For Little Acorn Café, Baltinglass Amid Closure

The much-loved Wicklow business is closing in less than two weeks.

A much-loved café in Baltinglass will close its doors for the final time later this month. The decision has been forced by the sale of the building in which the business operates.

Owner and chef Maggie Roche shared the news in a social post last week:

She was given the opportunity to buy the property, but says the asking price is simply beyond her means. Originally €750,000, it has now been reduced to €650,000.

The Little Acorn Café has been part of the West Wicklow community for the past six years, becoming known for its high-quality food, locally sourced ingredients and welcoming atmosphere.

An outpouring of sadness and affection has followed online, with customers describing the café as much more than somewhere to eat.

Many of the messages focus on Maggie herself, her food and the atmosphere she and her team created in the heart of Baltinglass. The closure is being viewed by many customers as a loss locally and for West Wicklow's food scene.

The Little Acorn Café's last day of service is Sunday August 23rd.
