Ashford's Garda Station, derelict since 2003, has revealed plans to redevelop the location into a community centre.
The Ashford Development Association who had been granted a 30-year lease is now actively moving forward to create a centre that will serve for the community.
With the expanding population and expansion of Ashford, the community centre aims to serve the new families and individuals who are settling in the area, with a dedicated space for community activities, social services and recreational opportunities.
Wicklow Sinn Fein TD John Brady has welcomes the redevelopment as he stated:
“I am delighted to see that real progress is being made in the redevelopment of the former Garda station in Ashford. This has been a long journey for the community, and I am proud to have led the campaign to bring this derelict building back into service for the people of Ashford. The recent acquisition of the premises by Wicklow County Council, finalised in 2022, marks a significant milestone, allowing us to finally take concrete steps to transform this space into a much-needed community centre."
