Plans presented for huge wind farm off Wexford and Wicklow coast.
Councillors weigh economic benefits against potential impacts on fishing communities as plans for up to 56 turbines off Arklow to North Wexford are unveiled.
The development would mark a major expansion of the existing Arklow Bank Wind Park, which consists of 7 wind turbines and is operated by SSE Renewables. The application site for the proposed development includes an “array area” covering approximately 63.4 km squared, located roughly 6km to 15km off the eastern coast.
The application site will extend down along the east coast, crossing the county boundary between Wexford and Wicklow, with the proposed development visible from the majority of the eastern portions of Co Wexford. The size or the turbines will either be 273m or 287m, more than twice the height of the Spire of Dublin.
