The cost of living support will be paid to the likes of Wicklow pensioners, carers, people with disabilities, lone parents and lone income families.
The January Bonus is the ninth lump sum payment deliveted under Budget 2024.
It will be paid on the same basis as the Christmas Bonus and will include the core weekly rate increases that came into effect at the start of the year.
Approximately 38,148 recipients are in County Wicklow, Minister Harris has confirmed.
Announcing the details of the double payment today, Minister Harris said:
“I’m very pleased that right throughout the week, the likes of our pensioners, carers, people with disabilities, lone parents and low income families will receive a much needed double welfare payment.
“This double payment was delivered as part of Budget 2024 – recognising the fact that families are still feeling the pinch associated with the Cost of Living.
“It’s a payment that’s particularly welcome after the Christmas and January period, which we all know can be particularly difficult in terms of pressures on the income of households.
“So whether you’re a pensioner, a carer, someone on disability allowance or a lone parent – this double lump sum will kick in on the day that you usually receive your weekly welfare payment.
“This is about putting more money back into the pockets of families in Wicklow and continuing to support them with the cost of living challenges that households continue to face.“
The Social Protection package in Budget 2024 was the largest in the history of the State and assisted pensioners, carers, people with disabilities, and families with the Cost of Living through a mix of lump sum supports and increases to weekly payments.
In addition to this series of lump-sum payments, the Budget also delivered across-the-board welfare increases of €12 per week from January 2024, and a range of targeted measures to take effect throughout 2024.
