Funding of €25,000 has been secured to support accessible upgrades at Bray and Brittas Bay.
Outdoor Swimming in Co Wicklow is getting a funding boost. Facilities in Bray, Brittas Bay and Arklow have secured €25,000.
It's part of a €400,000 Healthy Ireland nationwide Initiative announced this afternoon.
The funding for Bray and Brittas Bay will support accessible upgrades to a changing shelters, swim ladders, safety equipment, beach wheelchairs, hoists and shower facilities.
The investment is being warmly welcomed by local representatives, like Edward Timmins TD who said:
“This investment will improve the safety and accessibility of outdoor swimming locations across Wicklow, allowing more people to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of swimming in the open water."
The Tánaiste Simon Harris ialso recognises the positive impact the funding will have as outdoor swimming continues to grow in popularity across Wicklow:
"Wicklow has one of the best coastlines in the country. Our beaches are loved by families, swimmers and visitors all year round. Bray seafront and Brittas Bay draw people from right across the county and region."
The Wicklow TD added:
"This funding will make these locations more welcoming and more accessible. It means more people of all ages and abilities can enjoy a swim in the sea close to home."
The funding has also been welcomed by Sport Ireland and Swim Ireland.
