Sport Ireland says it hopes the country's success at the Olympics will lead to more young people getting involved in sport.
Ireland won a total of four medals - including two gold by Kellie Harrington in boxing and Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'Donovan in rowing.
It meant a 39th place finish in the medal table - the highest since the 1996 Games.
Sport Ireland CEO John Treacy hopes Kellie Harrington's win yesterday will help inspire the next generation.
Kellie Harrington is expected back in Ireland tomorrow - but there won't be a formal civic reception for Ireland's latest Olympic gold medallist.
Dublin City Council say there will be 'a further announcement' in the coming days regarding its plans to mark Kellie’s achievement.
