Wicklow Housing Remains Ireland's Most Expensive Outside Dublin

Strong demand, low vacancy and limited housing stock are keeping county prices elevated.

Wicklow remains the most expensive county in which to buy a home outside of Dublin.

The latest GeoDirectory's Residential Buildings Report shows Wicklow recorded the second-highest average price in the State in the 12 months to May, at €527,282.

Kildare was the third most expensive county, where buying a home will leave little change from €452,000.

Both are above the national average, which itself rose by 4.7% year-on-year.

Wicklow also continues to have one of the tightest housing markets in the State, despite a slower rate of new building.

The county vacancy rate stood at 2.4% in June, well below the national average of 3.7%.

Nationally, 81,373 residential units were classified as vacant. The national vacancy rate was unchanged year-on-year, although 15 of the 26 counties recorded declines.

Wicklow is among the counties with the smallest proportion of derelict stock which impacts property sales.
