Wicklow gardaí are investigating a hit and run which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Rathnew’s old village.
Two local males related to one another were walking home at around 2am at the bottom of Merrymeeting Hill, when a passing vehicle mounted the footpath, striking the older male, while his companion managed to avoid the impact.
The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to St Vincent’s University Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene and immediately fled.
The incident was reported to Wicklow gardaí and CCTV footage from a nearby house captured a D reg black vehicle, with ice visible on the roof, passing the scene around the time of the hit and run. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
