The HSE is offering free children’s flu nasal spray clinics in Wicklow, on Thursday January 9, for those aged between two and 17. The walk-in clinics are taking place in Bray Primary Care Centre from 9.30am – 12.30pm and Wicklow Vaccination Centre from 2.30pm – 5.00pm.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those attending are asking to please bring the child’s PPSN with you to the clinic. Healthcare workers, and other adults who are eligible and have not already received their winter vaccinations, can also avail of the Covid-19 and/or flu vaccines at these clinics. Flu is a serious illness that can be dangerous in children, with studies showing that children are twice as likely as adults to catch and spread flu easily. Young children are also more likely than adults to be very sick from flu. Vaccinating children protects them and their siblings, parents, grandparents and those who are vulnerable.
The Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV) is administered to children by way of a safe, quick and painless spray in each nostril. Children can breathe normally and many report that it just “tickles” when being given. The children’s nasal flu vaccine is also available from participating pharmacies.
