There are calls for full transparency surrounding a planning application by Kilsaran Concrete Ltd, to develop what would be the largest landfill facility in the country, here in Wicklow.
Sinn Fein T.D. John Brady says the County Council and the Minister for the Environment Eamonn Ryan, must also clarify if there is a plan to use the proposed landfill on a former quarry in Kilbride, at the back of the former tap pub on the old N11, to move 1.4 million tonnes of contaminated soil from the illegal dump in Whitestown in West Wicklow, which is still waiting to be remediated by the council.
The quarry was closed five years ago after natural occurring Asbestos was discovered in the quarry rock.
Deputy Brady says the way the news of the new plan was broken to councillors recently came as a surprise, while locals have expressed concerns at the plans.
