A call for ring-fenced bike lockers at Commuter Train Stations in Wicklow has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of cyclists and scooter riders in the area.
The Green Party is calling for bike locking facilities at commuter train stations in Wicklow. This call is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of bike riders in area after reports of stolen bikes have increased.
Green TD Steven Matthews has called for the Department of Transport to establish a ring-fenced fund for the National Transport Authority and Irish Rail to provide secure bike lockers at commuter rail stations.
He stated:
The Green Party has had a significant impact in reducing rail fares, but this is not the only factor in whether people choose to take public transport. We need to remove every barrier that keeps people in their cars for their commute and the provision of bike lockers is a relatively simple and cost-efficient way of opening public transport up as an option for more people,”
