There's been a slight decrease in the numbers registered as homeless - however more than 14,800 people spent Christmas in emergency accommodation.
4,510 children spent Christmas in emergency accommodation - as well as 10,354 adults.
Its a slight decrease on the total from November - which was expected as some registered as homeless are able to spend the festive season with family and friends.
The latest total shows an 11 percent increase on the previous December.
The data shows the problem is most acute in Dublin where there were more than 10,600 people in emergency accommodation including 3,300 children.
Homeless totals from the Department of Housing don't include women in refugee centres, asylum seekers, rough sleepers or the so-called hidden homeless.
