Works To Begin On Wicklow Town Court House.

The Court House has been vacant since 2010.

Wicklow Minister Simon Harris has been in contact with the Office of Public Works and the Courts Services enquiring about the Wicklow Town Court House which has been vacant for 14 years.

It has been confirmed that works are planned to have the roof of the Court House repaired by February of this year.

The Court House has been vacant since 2010, back then the district court moved to Bray due to health and safety concerns at the courthouse. Circuit court sittings had already relocated from Wicklow town to Bray in 2008.

Speaking yesterday Minister Simon Harris said:

“I’m glad to say we’re starting the year with some good news that the roof of the vacant Court House is to be repaired by the end of next month.

“The roof as I understand it requires significant works so I’m delighted that this is being worked on as a priority.

“We’ve been waiting way too long for any form of progress regarding the Wicklow Town Court House. After having spoken to the Courts Services I understand representatives from the Service met with representatives the Office of Public Works as recently as November last. 

“The Courts Services have also confirmed to me that a courthouse comprising of an appropriate number of courtrooms and related facilities is envisaged as being required to meet current and future demand in Wicklow. This is extremely welcome and something I will be keeping a close eye on over the year.

“In more positive news the OPW have agreed to provide a high-level assessment of the Wicklow campus as a whole and these works are included in the OPW workplan for 2024. 

"When it is fully repaired and deemed safe it will undoubtedly be of huge benefit to the local community once again, especially given its ideal location."
