Wicklows Simon Harris will become Taoiseach after the Dail's Easter recess.
He takes over from Leo Varadkar who shocked the nation with his resignation last Wednesday, but they met this afternoon to discuss the transition of power.
The pair spoke for well over an hour, with the outgoing Taoiseach briefing the Taoiseach-elect on "upcoming national and international issues."
Minister Harris is due to sit down with his members of Cabinet this week, as well as the Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin, and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan.
The 37-year-old is the 12th and youngest leader of Fine Gael, and is set to become the youngest ever Taoiseach on April 9th following the Easter recess.
