Wicklow Scoops 2 Awards At Community Oscars Ceremony

Two community groups from Wicklow has achieved success at the National Pride of Place awards, held this year at the Hillgrove Hotel in County Monaghan.

These annual awards, often referred to as the Oscars for community groups, celebrate the incredible work being done by community groups all over the island of Ireland.

Tearmann Community Garden in Baltinglass won a gold award in the Inclusive Communities category, while the Tinahely Community Recycling Centre secured a silver award in the Creative Communities category.

Cllr. Paul O’Brien, Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, attended the event and congratulated everyone involved. He remarked, “This is an exceptional achievement for the County, and I couldn’t be prouder of all the people involved who made this happen. To see two Wicklow nominees on the podium, bringing home a gold and silver award, against very strong competition from across the island of Ireland was a very proud moment as Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council.”

Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive, Wicklow County Council, who was also present that evening, expressed her pride in all three Wicklow nominees. “It is a wonderful achievement for these groups, and it acknowledges the fantastic work they have done in their communities” Also, she extended her wholehearted congratulations to all the local volunteers and groups who participated in the competition."

Sponsored by IPB Insurance, the Pride of Place competition was initiated 22 years ago in partnership with Co-operation Ireland to recognise the  contributions made by volunteers and those involved in local community development.
