Wicklow RNLI Rescue Stricken Pair After Capsize Of Rowing Boat

Wicklow RNLI crew launch quick rescue after two people stranded in Wicklow harbour on Wednesday

Wicklow RNLI volunteers launched their inshore lifeboat on Wednesday (3 June) to reports, from a member of the public, of two people in the water 200 meters north of Wicklow Harbour.

As Wednesday night is training night for the volunteers in Wicklow RNLI there was a crew already at the station, leading to a very quick launch three minutes after the pagers sounded.

The inshore lifeboat proceeded to the casualty location as quickly as possible.

Arriving on scene in slightly choppy seas the volunteer crew found the two casualties in the water holding onto their capsized rowing boat.

The casualties were quickly taken onboard the inshore lifeboat and landed safely ashore beside the rowing club.

With the casualties assessed and requiring no further assistance the volunteer crew made their way back to the capsized rowing boat.

This was already being tended to by members of the rowing club who had arrived on scene shortly after the inshore lifeboat.

With no further assistance required the volunteer crew were stood down, returned to station and the boat made ready for the next callout.

Wicklow RNLI Helm Alan Goucher said ‘I would like to wish the two casualties well and we are happy with the positive outcome. I would also like to commend the member of the public who made the call for help. Their call was vital in this positive outcome. I would like to remind anyone going on the water to please wear an appropriate lifejacket or buoyancy aid and to also carrying a suitable means of communication. I’d also like to remind people that if they see anyone in trouble on the water to please call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.’
