The Justice Minister says criminals do not have the right to privacy if they attack front-line gardaí.
Wicklow TD Simon Harris has introduced legislation in the Dáil, to allow gardaí to wear body cameras.
A pilot scheme will be rolled out in December, as an additional protection measure for gardaí while on the job.
Minister Harris also condemned the recent attacks on gardaí.
