Despite the ongoing level five restrictions, Gardai will begin their seasonal operation in Wicklow today, to prevent the theft of Christmas trees from grower’s farms.
Operation Hurdle, a successful initiative which involves nightly air patrols, high-visibility checkpoints and armed support units, will run up until December 20th here in the garden county.
Award winning grower, Christy Kavanagh, based in Newtownmountkennedy, says the presence of garda patrols in recent years, has led to a dramatic reduction in the theft of Christmas trees.
