Phonewatch, the home security system supplier, have revealed the drop in burglaries in Wicklow, as well as an 8% drop nationwide.The fall in burglaries was noted by 21 out of 28 Gardaí divisions across the country, with the highest rate of decreases occuring in Dublin Eastern Gardaí Division (26%), Wicklow (23%), West Cork (22%), and Dublin South (21%).However, there were increases in burglaries in some areas, including Clare (+ 23%, or 197 burglaries), Mayo (+ 22%), Sligo and Leitrim (+ 17%), and Galway ( + 1%).According to An Garda Síochána reports for national incidents, 26% of burglars enter homes through the back door, 24% via back windows and 8% through front windows, with 1 in 5 cases involving a burglar gaining access through an unsecure door or window.
