Wicklow County Council Make Substantial Changes To Arklow's Traffic System.

Wicklow County Council will be undertaking public realm and road improvements to the parade ground area in Arklow Town Centre.

Wicklow County Council will be undertaking public realm and road improvements to the parade ground area in Arklow Town Centre. The proposed works include the re-configuration of existing carriageway, footways, and shared accesses as well as associated drainage, ducting and other ancillary works. The works within the town will be undertaken in a phased manner and the overall works is expected to take approximately 10 months to complete. The initial stage of works will involve the installation of drainage, service ducting, and utilities, and is due to commence Feb 7th 2022 on the Junction of Dunne’s Lane on Main Street and move through the job in a phased manner. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works. The first phase of the works will include, but not be limited to, turning the Main street into a one way system inbound from its junction with St. Mary’s Road to Bridge Street. There will be no turning right onto Main Street from Bridge Street. HGV’s will be encouraged not to use the Lower Main Street diversion route and will alternatively be directed to Upper Main Street via exit 21 (Arklow South) on the M11 and the R772 Wexford Road. This one way system will be in place for approximately 5 months. Please note that the Bus Stop opposite the Courthouse will be temporarily closed for the duration of the one-way system and passengers will alternatively be directed to use the Bus Stop on the Wexford Road opposite Lidl or the Bus Stops on the R772. When the project requires a change to the traffic management arrangement, further advance notification will be given.
